10/31/08:

Well, then...

A lot of things have happened in the last couple of months, and a lot more are on their way. First off, I quit the Kiss 4K comic. It was lots of fun, but I wasn't getting paid. I had to move on to paying work, unfortunately, and left the book hanging before issue 10 was even finished. Not very professional of me, that's for sure, but I really had no choice.

I had a blast on that book and made a lot of new fans and friends, and I'll miss it. I hope they get someone to pick it up and finish it.

Working on a franchise that big is fun, but stressful. Adding to the stress was the fact that I didn't know when I was going to get paid, if ever. Leaving the book and moving on was like not realizing you're carrying around a hundred-pound sack of potatoes everywhere you go, until you finally put it down. It feels great.

With that stress no longer in my life, I'm free to actually start working on the projects I talked about in July (see "Old News" below). And, to fill the void the Kiss comic left in my schedule, I'll be working on something new. Those of you who knew me in the late 90s have seen the first incarnation of this project. Those of you who knew me even before then will recognize some of the characters from an old independent comic I used to write and draw.

See, the Kiss comic was fun, but it was a superhero comic, and I'm not much of a superhero comic guy. I grew up on Jonah Hex, old EC reprints, Doctor Strange, Weird War, Haunted Tank...that sort of thing. So this is the comic I'd do if I could do any comic I wanted:

This is LOCUS, a comic centering around what I call "The Three B's": Boobs, Blood and Bad Language.

If you're a girl, though, don't let that put you off. This isn't mindless T & A meant just for the boys. Every woman I've shown this comic to has said to me, "Man! She's cool! I wish I could be Locus!" And that's good news to me. As a husband, and as a father to a young woman, I like my comics to do more than just objectify the female form. So, while this comic will have a good deal of nudity (this is me we're talking about, after all), it'll also be a smart read. I hope you check it out!

The best thing about Locus is that it's hosted on Keenspot, so you'll be able to buy actual print copies at their print-on-demand store. They'll go up for sale once the issue in question is completely online. Each issue will be updated Monday/Wednesday/Friday, so it'll take two months for an issue to be displayed in its entirety. I'll throw in some extra art and goodies and such into the print version that won't be shown online. It's going to be so much fun. I can't wait.

So, check it out! Let me know what you think! This is my pet project; my baby. I hope you like it.

Old News:

07/13/08:

Good Lord, this year so far...you have no idea!

It all started right after Christmas last year. I got an email from Dan Forcey, the VP of Platinum Studios, that said, in effect, "We're firing the whole Kiss 4K team and moving it online. It's all you now." So, of course, I quit my Day Job.

Now I pay my rent by sitting around in my pajamas all day, drawing Kiss saving the world. It's EVERY BIT as awesome as it sounds.

And that just opened the floodgates. Oh my God.

I was approached by Shane Moore from Wandering Sage Publication (and an author in his own right) to draw the graphic novelization of an up-and-coming young adult novel called A Prophecy Forgotten, by M.B. Weston, which is going to be a lot of fun. I love drawing angels, and this book's crawlin' with 'em.

Shortly thereafter, Shane approached me again for another project--the graphic novelization of an excellent movie called Yesterday Was A Lie. If you haven't seen it, find a way to do so. It's fantastic.

There's also a fourth comic in the works, but I can't quite tell you what that is yet. I can guarantee it'll be AWESOME, though.

And I'm not the only one having good luck this year. My friend Mark Brown has been featured in Gallery 1988, and they can't keep his paintings on the walls! Once they're shown, they're sold. He even had one of his paintings find its way into the hands of Pete Wentz, as a birthday present. The man's unstoppable! The Missus and I flew up to his neck of the woods to visit friends and family (and celebrate our 10th Anniversary!), and stopped by Mark's place for some barbeque goodness, where we swapped "Oh Shit I Can't Believe How Things Have Taken Off This Year" stories. It was a fun time.

So, I'll be drawing four comics simultaneously soon. I have two personal projects waiting in the sidelines--hopefully I'll be able to squeeze them in at some point.

I've also updated the Links page with some new friends I've made. Go check it out! Hint: My Secret Fourth Project involves one of the new links on that page. ;)

That's about it for now! Hopefully, I'll get this site redone sometime soon--as well as my Godawful Cafe Press store. I have some new art to show you, but won't have time to put that up for a little while longer.

07/19/07:

I'll be at the San Diego Comic Con this year, but only for about a day and a half.

I'll be there all day Saturday, the 28th, and the first half of Sunday.

Look for the Hero By Night display in the Drunk Duck Artists' Alley--that's where I'll most likely be, hanging out with my good friend, DJ Coffman. Stop by and say hello!

07/13/07:

It's Friday the 13th. I just realized that. Anyway, the nice people over at Voltcase interviewed me for the second time this year. This time, the interview's all about the KISS 4K Webcomic. Go check it out!

You can find the first interview here.

KISS 4K: The Webcomic premieres today! Click here to check it out. It'll be updated Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Check it out! I promise you'll love it.

03/28/07:

The KISS Webcomic was originally slated to go online on April 2 of this year, but the start date's been pushed back to May 1. Which, of course, gives me more time to work ahead and make it look great. :)

03/18/07:

Decided the site was long overdue for an overhaul. I hope you like the new look.

Saturday, at Wizard World Los Angeles, Platinum Studios and Kiss Comics Group formally announced their new book, KISS 4K. Part of the announcement stated that a companion webcomic would be featured on DrunkDuck, starting April 2, 2007, written and drawn by yours truly.

I'm stoked.

Please note that the "Kiss Webcomic" link to the right won't be working until then.
